Funky Tails on Dragons Den

Funky Tails invades CBC's Dragons' Den!

For those of you who don't know, Dragons' Den is a TV show where entrepreneurs pitch their businesses to panel of highly successful  Canadian business titans, giving them the opportunity to invest in their businesses. For our American friends, the show is very similar to Shark Tank.

The show features Jim Treliving, Michael Wekerle, Michele Romanow, Manjit Minhas, Joe Mimram and Arlene Dickerson.

In March, 2017, we decided to attend the auditions for Dragons' Den that were being held in Abbotsford, BC.  As an avid viewer of the show, I thought our sweaters might be something they would be interested in. Not knowing what to expect, I searched the internet for stories from people who had auditioned before, in an attempt to learn from their experience. After watching and reading as much as I could find, I prepared my pitch and in early March, headed to the Quality Inn with my business partner Jenny to give it a shot!

Dressed in our best ugly Christmas sweaters, Jenny and I made our pitch to a CBC producer and a BDC representative, then answered all of their questions about our business. It was kind of like a mini version of Dragons' Den.

A few days later I received a call that we had been selected to come to Toronto to pitch to the Dragons and be filmed for TV. How exciting is this!!

One month later, I made the trip to Toronto, without my business partner Jenny, and made my pitch to the Dragons. Jenny, unfortunately, is getting up there in age, and I couldn't put her through the stress of flying for my benefit, so she stayed at home with the rest of the family and enjoyed her favourite spot on the couch (did I forget to mention Jenny is our pug?).

Now I can't really say much about it, so you'll need to watch this fall on CBC to see how it all goes down, but we are happy to report that the ugly Christmas sweater craze has invaded the Dragons Den!
